Our intensives courses involve either longer lessons, or shorter lessons but more frequently. Each session is a minimum of 2 hours, up to a maximum of 5 hours, depending on how long you feel you can drive for. Normally the course would be over days or weeks, having lessons every day. But we can do semi-intensives which can be done over a few weeks.
We cater for each pupils personal needs, we have plenty of courses available to help suit all learners and we have excellent pass rates. Please look at Driving Courses for details.
We offer 5 different courses, but these are not set in stone, we can tailor a course to your needs, for example – short or longer courses. Is best to keep in mind your ability to learn, how quickly you absorb information, how recently you have driven or if any experience at all, concentration etc.
We are more than happy to discuss further with you to help you decide what course is best. We think this is where we do what we do best, as our instructors have a great understanding of our pupils needs with just a few questions.
DVSA states the average time it takes is 45 hours with an instructor, again if you are unsure we offer an assessment lesson with a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, which can help you decide what is best for you without any further commitment. You can book the assessment at the cost of £80 and it is a 2 hour session.
We can add extra hours on as long as we have a reasonable amount of notice to ensure availability. Adding extra on will always make things easier for both you and your instructor and give you the best chance of passing so please bear this in mind when booking, this can be done directly with your instructor or via our office.
If there are any unused hours, we encourage you to take further tuition, such as a motorway lesson but a refund could be arranged between you and your instructor as long as there is reasonable notice.
We always keep 2 hours of the course for the test date.
All of our instructors have plenty of experience with all types of learners and we try and adapt our teaching styles to suit each pupil. We are always friendly, patient, encouraging, and professional at all times and we will work to your pace. We have progress reports to ensure that you know how you are doing at all times with clear goals for each session.
We will discuss how many hours you think you can manage in the car at a time to help make is a relaxing as possible to learn.
We offer manual and automatic courses. We have a much larger area for manual course but auto is available but dependent on the area you live and instructor availability. We have a range of cars that our instructors use, smaller and larger cars to suit height etc.
It will depend on the length of course you choose and whether you choose to include a practical test or not. Full list of courses is available with the prices, please visit our prices page.
We ask for a £199 deposit if you would like us to source you a quicker driving test or you can pay £99 if you have your own test booked or would like to book it yourself. You can pay via bank transfer or credit or debit card.
We can take full payment and pay the instructor on your behalf. You can also pay your instructor directly via bank transfer or cash if that is agreed with both parties.
You can discuss with your instructor to pay in instalments. For example, if your course isn’t starting for 8 weeks you could pay an agreed amount each week up to you test to help you manage the payments. All we ask is that payment is made at least 72 hours before starts.
Any questions please feel free to call us.
If you would like to purchase a gift voucher please contact us and we can discuss what option is best and we can send a gift voucher via post or email.

Yes – we will need to ensure our instructors our available before committing to a course. If we couldn’t find you a suitable instructor we could help you change the date and find a course to suit you.
We look for driving test cancellations, this process can sometimes be time consuming but we aim to find you a date within a week of you paying the deposit.
There are possible Saturday slots available, but there is an additional fee of £13. Saturday tests are not often available but we can certainly try to get you one but there is no guarantee.
Yes – we will use the same car for the driving test that you used on your course, unless in the rare occurrence that the vehicle has broken down or there is an emergency. We will try and source a similar car or try and get a lesson in before the test to ensure you are used to the car.
Yes we can.
Local Intensive have a variety of cars, it will depend on the instructor that is allocated to you. If there is a specific make or model you would like, please ask but we can’t guarantee it.
We offer a good rate for all our instructors, there is no franchise or contracts and we are always looking to expand to new areas so please enquire through our instructor contact form.
We also offer instructor training.
We work backwards from your practical test date, so once that is booked your instructor will contact you directly to book the lessons in.
On the rare occasion you may not feel your instructor is the right one for you we will work with you as best we can to resolve the situation. Any problems are much easier to deal with during the course, not after.
The can normally be resolved by expressing any concerns you may have to your instructor, or contacting us at the office but we endeavour to find a suitable solution.
Our cancellation policy is 3 working days’ notice – this includes Saturdays but not Sundays.
If you and your instructor agree you are not ready to take the test we can postpone to test but we need 4 working days’ notice to be able to do this without losing the driving test fee. There is £10 admin fee.
All our instructors are self-employed, if they feel you are unsafe and are not prepared for you to use the car for the test, it is their final decision.
We can rebook a practical driving test for you at a fee of £99 and you can book additional lessons with your instructor.
